AM backs rehab centre bid

A SWANSEA-BASED AM is lending his support to a campaign to set-up a specialised rehabilitation centre at a city hospital.

City GP Dai Lloyd, who is also Plaid AM for South Wales West, has been involved with talks over plans to develop a £10 million therapy centre within the grounds of the city's Morriston Hospital.

Dr Lloyd has met with Treat (Treatment, Rehabilitation, Exercise and Therapy) Trust Wales founder Melanie Davies, and has taken the step of writing to Assembly Health Minister Edwina Hart underlining his support.

The charity already has the backing of Port Talbot actor Michael Sheen, who is its president.

Dr Lloyd said: "A rehabilitation centre such as this is much-needed in South Wales, and Morriston Hospital is ideally placed to develop such a specialist centre of excellence. The land is available, they have the backing of the ABM University Health Board, along with the backing of high-profile members of society."

An Assembly spokesman said Mrs Hart would respond to Dr Lloyd when she received his letter.
